Genealogy of the nuclear [beta]-fibrinogen locus in a highly structured lizard species: Comparison with mtDNA and evidence for intragenic recombination in the hybrid zone

Article Abstract:

A fine-scale analysis of the putative mtDNA contact zone was performed together with a global analysis of the patterns of variation observed at the nuclear [beta]-fibrinogen intron 7 ([beta]-fibint7) to provide novel insights into the evolutionary history of highly structured lizard populations. It is showed that the observed genealogy at the [beta]-fibint7 locus reveals extensive admixture between two formerly isolated lizard populations while the two mtDNA lineages remain essentially allopatric.

Diversity of sex-determining alleles in Bracon hebtor

Article Abstract:

The sex determination load is fairly low in the parasitoid was Bracon hebetor, and interpopulation dispersal can increase sex allele diversity inside populations. Most wasp sex is determined at a polymorphic "sex locus," and research has shown the maximum number of alleles detected per population was 10. Sex alleles discovered within populations was between 3 or 4 for one population, and 9 for another.

The article discusses about an analysis of the balance between the effects of intrinsic viability selection and ecological differentiation on the stability of diploid-polypoid hybrid zones in regions of secondary contact done to study the dynamics of a dispersal-dependent ecotonal hybrid zone across a gradient in the rate of habitat disturbance.
